Background
The selection of AVIAREPS by Visit Maldives was aimed at strengthening its stature as a luxury travel getaway and inspiring Australian travelers. The contract was extended to support the expansion of promotional activities in Australia and position the Maldives as an easily accessible destination for luxury travel experiences. The goal is to increase awareness and attract more visitors to the Maldives, whilst encouraging longer stays and higher spending. We achieved this through a variety of activities, including sales, marketing, promotions, public relations and handling requests from the travel industry, media and consumers.
Solution
- Stories and experiences related to travel to the Maldives were effectively presented, shared and promoted, contributing to a more engaging and attractive representation of the destination
- Sales calls and trade training/seminars
- Collaterals and News Releases distribution
- Identify and coordinate Co-op promotions and opportunities with trade partners
- Participating in International Media Marketplace to promote Maldives as a luxury travel destination and create awareness through the Australian Media. The event was attended by 150 A-list media such as BBC Travel, Conde Nast Travel, Vogue Magazine and National Geographic Traveller
- Utilizing newsletters to provide updates on Maldives' attractions/ offerings to industry professionals
- Actively monitoring and sharing media coverage of Maldives in Australian travel news outlets
- Compiling a monthly report highlighting travel trends, airline updates/routes, other tourism board activities, and travel news.
- Providing insight on competitor destination’s marketing/news and visitor arrival results
Results
- Maldives Tourism’s distribution network has been expanded, enabling wider reach and accessibility for potential visitors. Over 36 airlines now operate to Velana International Airport which is a 100% recovery from pre-COVID figures
- Maldives was ranked number 9 in the “Top Tropical Holiday Destination” for Australians in 2023
- By June of 2023, Maldives had already welcomed over 18,000 Australians
- Tourist arrival into Maldives had already grown by 13.6% by end of July 2023
