Belgium is of major importance in Europe, as Brussels is the capital and host of the European Parliament. This makes the area an international business centre and makes it attractive for in- and outbound travelling.
With over 10 million people, this small country is densely populated. Belgium has three official languages: Dutch (Flemish) and French (Walloon) are spoken by a majority and the 3rd language is German. Travel intensity is highest in the Flemish speaking part of the country. Approx. 60% of the Belgians travel abroad for holiday once or more every year. Belgian holidays are strongly focused on the summer months and internet is increasingly used for information and bookings. Still the organised travel industry hold approx. 45% share of the travel market.
